- The nature of discrimination (विवेक) is to distinguish with the help of the intellect, those that repeatedly appear in our lives :
- The right (धर्म ) and the wrong (अधर्म )
- The path of good (श्रेयस् ) and the path of pleasure (प्रेयस् )
- The merit ( पुण्य) and the demerit (पाप )
- The permanent (नित्य ) and the temporary ( अनित्य)
- When we are unable to use the power of discrimination, we become victims of the circumstances. We need external help to overcome our own intellectual inefficiencies.
- This is symbolically portrayed here in Bhagavad Gita as Arjuna deciding not to fight, while he is in between the two armies
- The Lord, acting as the savior, smilingly extends his help to the distraught friend, Arjuna.
